Make it Make Meaning is an extensive documentary project that deals with the encroaching question of whether or not making is worth it in a world where AI tech is replicating human art with greater accuracy every day. It also deals with the incredibly short memory for artwork that comes with our increasingly connected world that has us consuming content at lightning-fast speeds. Most importantly, the documentary asks the question about why artists would continue to devote their lives to their craft if great, complicated works can be forgotten by the world in the blink of an eye.
PHASE ONE:
In August of 2025, I began writing with a goal of hitting one million words. Everything that counted towards the writing goal would be posted on Substack and accessible to the public. These writings include poetry, essays, novels, short stories, jokes, and various other types of writing. Editing will be done along the way and after the project. Smaller projects will be published with paper copies put into Little Free Libraries around the country. Each copy will have instructions on readers to send me an email informing me that they read the book. If you are here to write your email, please do so on the form below.
1,000,000 Words Project Contact
Thank you so much for reading one of my books for the 1,000,000 Words Project. Please use this form once you have finished reading one of my books. By using this form you are consenting to having your comments used in a documentary about the project, but you don’t even have to give me a real name, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
PHASE TWO:
Once 1,000,000 words have been written, I will continue editing some of the heavier material and publishing it, then traveling around the country and putting the books in Little Free Libraries and more public places. This portion of the travel will be much more intensive. It will include traveling around the country from city-to-city and include filming for the documentary portion of the project. Interviews will also be conducted with artists around the country from various practices. We will discuss their thoughts on the future of art and whether or not art is worth being made by humans. I will also be documenting many different types of experiences that I have in my travels and my efforts in getting my art seen.
PHASE THREE:
Once most of the footage has been collected and all of my paper copies of the books created during Phase One have been distributed, I will begin editing the documentary. This will include any thoughts that readers might have contributed to the piece. Additional footage might be shot dealing with the documentary editing process. When the documentary has finished, it will be submitted to film festivals for a premiere.
